Muslims the world over are angry over the remarks made by head of the church Pope Benedict XVI. In his speech, the pope quoted 14th-century Byzantine emperor Manuel II Paleologus who said: "Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."
Now, nobody thought a neanderthal named "Manuel II Paleologus" ever existed in this world and least of all the things, what he did and said in his time. So to quote such infuriating words was uncalled for...and that too from the head of the church and not a lesser mortal like us!!
Apparently the offending remarks were almost a footnote to the pope's speech… But it seems some elements in the Muslim world are looking avidly for something to offend them. Meanwhile, governments looking to boost their Islamic credentials are only too happy to seize on this, or nurture it, for their own political advantage.....which is ridiculous!!
People the world over opined that the pope should be more tolerant and judicious in choice of words and quotes....as a pious man with great humility and tolerance befitting his title..
The vatican and later the pope himself tendered several apologies for having hurt the sentiments of muslims...
